Chapter 1 Ido Daisuke Part 2.5 -- Intermediate Dialogue

Translation Notes:
The following dialogue includes all possible conversations which may take place between the last chunk of the main storyline and Gally leaving the repair shop to visit the street.  None of the optional conversations with NPCs on the street are translated here.

Notes about specific lines of dialogue:
でも、ストリートに行くっていうのはいい経験かもね。あそこをみれば、このクズ鉄町がどういう所なのか、よく分かると思うよ。
A more literal translation: "...But you'll probably have a good time on the Street.  I think you can really get to know what kind of place Scrap Iron City is by just looking at it." I decided to say "these streets" instead of "what kind of place Scrap Iron City is" because it sounds smoother in English, and the meaning is essentially the same.

イド： どうしたんだい？ストリートまでの行き方を、もう一度説明しておこうか？

Ido: What’s up?  Should I explain the directions to the street one more time?

EXPLAIN IT ONE MORE TIME.

IT’S OKAY, I ALREADY MEMORIZED THEM.

イド： ストリートに行くには、まず、整備処を出てまっすぐ進むんだ。すると、画面がワールドマップに切り替わる。

Ido: To get to the street, first exit the repair shop and go straight forward.  Then, the screen will switch to the World Map.

イド： ワールドマップ上は、赤く明滅する点が・・・現時点で２つ表示されていて、その一方にイド整備処と表示されているはずだ。

Ido: There are blinking red dots on the World Map-- two at the moment.  At one position, Ido’s Repair Shop should be displayed.

これが君の今いる場所を示している。

This indicates your current location.

イド： ワールドマップ上で方向キーを入れると、イド整備処と表示が消えて、かわりにストリートと表示されるから、その状態で〇ボタンを押す。

Ido: Change positions with the D-pad until the word Street appears on the World Map, and Ido’s Repair Shop disappears.  Then press the 〇 button.

そうすることによって、ストリートへ移動することができるんだよ。

Do this in order to go to the street.

イド： じゃあ、行ってらっしゃい。あまい遅くならないようにね。

Ido:  Well then, have a nice day!  Don’t stay out too late!

[GALLY SPEAKS TO THE CITIZEN ON THE 4TH FLOOR]

市民：やあ、お嬢ちゃん。ストリートの方に行ってくるんだって？

Citizen: Hey, lil’ lady.  You headin’ out for the street?

市民：お嬢ちゃんはクズ鉄町にやってきて、まだ日が浅いんだよね？じゃあ少し面食らうかもしれないなあ。なんせ、ガラの悪い連中が多いから・・・

Citizen:  You're still new to Scrap Iron City, aren't ya?  So you might be a little out of the loop.  Well, there’s a lot a’ hoodlums out there...

市民：でも、ストリートに行くっていうのはいい経験かもね。あそこをみれば、このクズ鉄町がどういう所なのか、よく分かると思うよ。

Citizen: ...But you’ll probably have a good time on the street.  I think you can really get to know these streets by just lookin' around.

[GALLY SPEAKS TO THE CITIZEN A SECOND TIME]

市民：ストリートから細い路地に入って行くときなどは特に気を付けるようにしなよ。路地裏には犯罪者も大勢ひそんでいたりするからね。

Citizen: Be careful-- especially when enterin' narrow alleys from the Street.  Lots of criminals lurk in those alleyways.

[GALLY TRIES TO LEAVE THE BUILDING]

ゴンズ：おおい、ガリィちゃん！

Gonzu: Waaait, Gally!

ゴンズ：ほっほっほ。どうやら昨夜はメイワクかけちまったみたいだなあ。

Gonzu: Hohoho.  Looks like I was a real bother last night.

ゴンズ：反省しとるよ。自分じゃ全然覚えとらんのだがな。

Gonzu: Apologies.  I completely forgot myself.

ゴンズ：ところで、今からおでかけかね？

Gonzu: By the way, are you going out?

まあ、あまり遅くならんうちに帰ってくるようにした方がいい。

Well, you shouldn’t stay out too late.

ゴンズ：ここのところ、女ばかりを狙った連続殺人事件が起きてるらしいからな。

Gonzu: Looks like there’s been a series of murders lately… and all the victims have been women.

[GALLY SPEAKS TO GONZU AGAIN]

ゴンズ：ストリートに行くのなら、あまり遅くならんうちに帰ってくるようにするんだぞ。

Gonzu: If you go on the street, don’t stay out too late.

[GALLY LEAVES THE REPAIR SHOP]

(GALLY SPEAKS TO THE CITIZEN WITH THE WHITE HAT)

市民：おまえさん、ここの患者かと思ってたら、イド先生と一緒に住んでるらしいな？

Citizen: Hey, stranger.  I thought you were a patient here, but you really live with Dr. Ido?

市民：じゃアその腕は、イド先生に付けてもらったものなのか？

Citizen: So, did Dr. Ido attach those arms for you?

市民：いいボディパーツじゃないか？こりゃあかなり上等なモンだぜ？イド先生・・・相当フンパツしたとみえる・・・

Citizen: Aren’t those some nice body parts?  First-rate, I'd say... Looks like Dr. Ido really splurged on ‘em…

市民：だけど、イド先生は、金のない患者の容態まで診てやったりしてるようだから・・・

Citizen: But Dr. Ido doesn’t seem to make much from diagnosing patients…

この整備処に、こんな高級パーツを買うほどの余裕があるとは思えないのだがなァ・・・？

Didn’t think the repair shop could afford such luxury parts…

(GALLY SPEAKS TO THE CITIZEN WITH THE WHITE HAT A SECOND TIME)

市民：ああ、ストリートに出るのなら注意したほうがいいぜ。

Citizen: Ah, be vigilant if you go out on the street.

市民：歩いてるところをいきなり押さえつけて、ボディパーツを盗んでいくパーツ強盗なんて野郎もいるからな。狙われないように十分気を付けるこった。

Citizen: One moment, you’re out walking-- The next, a body parts thief pins you down and steals your parts.  Keep a sharp eye, so not to be their next target!

(GALLY SPEAKS TO THE BIG MUSCULAR CITIZEN)

市民：ストリートへ行くのかい？だったら少し用心しておいた方だいいよ。

Citizen: Are you going out on the street?  Then you better be a little cautious…

市民：だって・・・キミ、すごく高価ろうなボディパーツをつけてるじゃないか？

Citizen: ...Since you’ve got on very expensive body parts, right?

市民：そんな上等なパーツをつけたままで、不用意に路地裏なんかに入っていったら、何が出てきてもおかしくないよ。

Citizen: If you wander carelessly into an alley with such high-end parts, don't be surprised by what comes out...

市民：・・・最近また連続殺人事件なんかが発生してるみたいだしね・・・

Citizen: ...It looks like there’s been a serial killer on the loose lately…

市民：クズ鉄町は昔から治安が良くないのさ。いろんな奴が住んでるからね。

Citizen: Scrap Iron City isn’t a very safe place.  There’s all sorts of people out here...

(GALLY SPEAKS TO THE BIG MUSCULAR CITIZEN A SECOND TIME)

市民：ストリートへ行く方法は、ちゃんと知ってるのかい？

Citizen: Do you know how to get to the street?

確認しとこうかな？

もう知ってるもん！

市民：ストリートへ行く方法は、まずここをまっすぐ歩いていけばいいのさ。一定以上進むと、画面がワールドマップに切り替わる。

Announcement

Looking ahead, I’ve decided to significantly reduce the amount of intermediate dialogue I’ll translate.  If I translated every combination of intermediate dialogue, I think it might double the amount of time it would take for me to translate the script.  So I plan to translate the main script first, then translate the intermediate dialogue later.  But I might decide to translate some intermediate dialogue at my own discretion.  In other words: the ones I feel like doing, and probably won’t translate any of the dialogue from faceless characters for now.  

Chapter 1 Ido Daisuke Part 2

Translation Notes: 
しょうがないなあis a phrase that basically means resignation to one's fate.  It means something like "oh well, I can't do anything about it", when used in reference to an unpleasant situation.  But when used in reference to a person, it means something like "they can't do anything" or "they're hopeless".  I translated the line as "How hopeless", where Gally is referring to Gonzu.

[GALLY GOES TO 1ST FLOOR, EXITS THE BUILDING, AFTER HAVING BEEN ON THE ROOF]

イド： おーい、ガリィ！

Ido: Wait, Gally!

イド： 今日はもう遅いから、外出は明日にしたらどうだい？

Ido: It’s already late.  Why don't you go out tomorrow?

イド： 自由に動けるようになって嬉しいのは分かるけどそんなにあわてなくても少しずつこのクズ鉄町に慣れていけばいいんだよ。

Ido: I know that gaining the ability to move has made you so happy, but there’s no need to rush.  It’s okay to get used to Scrap Iron City little by little.

イド： それよりも、なるべく夜間は外出をひかえて、家でおとなしくてるようにね。

Ido: You should avoid going out at night as much as possible, and stay home quietly instead.

イド：屋上でも説明したとおり、この街の治安はあまり良くないからね・・・

Ido: As I mentioned on the roof, this isn’t a very safe city…

この整備処の周辺も最近は物騒になってきているし・・・君にもしものことがあってもいけないだろう？

Recently, it’s gotten dangerous around the repair shop… We mustn't let something to happen to you, right?

イド： さあ！整備処内へ戻って夕食にしょうか？動き回っておなかが空いただろう？

Ido: Why don’t you come back inside the repair shop and have dinner?  After all that moving around, you must have worked up a good appetite!

[GALLY GOES BACK INSIDE, AND TO BED]

こんな夜中に・・・なんの音だろう？

What was that noise… In the middle of the night?

正面の・・・イドの部屋からみたいだけど・・・

I think it came from out front… Ido’s room…

[INTERACTIVE MODE]

[GALLY LEAVES HER ROOM AND CHECKS IDO’S ROOM]

ガリィ：どうかしたの？イド・・・あれ？

Gally: What’s going on, Ido? …Huh?

[GALLY LEAVES IDO’S ROOM]

ガリィ： イドがいない・・・どこにいっちゃったんだろう・・・

Gally: Ido’s not here… I wonder where he went…

[GALLY TAKES THE ELEVATOR, GOES TO THE BASEMENT]

[GALLY WALKS TO THE LARGE STEEL DOOR AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM]

・・・開かない・・・

…It won’t open…

・・・何なんだろう？この部屋・・・

What could this room be…?

鍵がかかってるみたいだけど・・・何でここにだけ鍵をかけてるんだろう？

It looks like it’s locked, but… Why is this the only room that’s locked?

一人でこっそり出かけていったこともそうだけど・・・

And he went out in secret, all by himself…

イドは・・・私に何か隠し事をしてるのかな？

[GALLY TRIES TO EXIT THE BUILDING]

ガリィ：ゴ・・・ンズさん！

Gally: M-Mister Gonzu!

ガリィ：大丈夫？どうしちゃったの？

Gally: Are you okay?  What happened?

ゴンズ：うう〜ガリィちゃんか・・・ワシは・・・ワシはもうだめだ・・・

Gonzu: Uughh… Gally… I’m so… I’m so useless…

ガリィ： そんな・・・しっかいして！ゴンズさん！

Gally: Oh no… Hang on, Mister Gonzu!

ゴンズ：もうだめだ・・・もう・・・

Gonzu: I’m done for… I…

ゴンズ：・・・それ以上飲めないぞ・・・ヒック！

Gonzu: …I can’t drink any more… *hic*!

ガリィ：・・・？

Gally: …?

ガリィ：・・・なんだ・・・お酒の飲み過ぎで酔っばらってるだけなんだ・・・

Gally: …Oh… He just drank too much…  

ゴンズ：ぐー

Gonzu: Zzz

ガリィ：しょうがないなあ・・・ゴンズさん・・・こんなことろで寝ちゃって・・・

Gally: How hopeless… Mister Gonzu… fell asleep in this spot… here…

[THE FOLLOWING MORNING]

イド： ハハハ。そうか。夜中にゴンさんが突然押しかけてきて、

Ido: Hahaha!  Really?  In the middle of the night, Mr. Gon suddenly stormed in--

玄関先そのまま倒れてしまったってわけか。そりゃガリィが驚くのも無理はないよ。

--and collapsed like that, by the front door!  No wonder you were startled!

ガリィ：笑い事じゃないわ。大変だったんだから・・・

Gally: It’s not funny!  It was awful…

イド： ごめんごめん。それにしても、そんなことがあったなんて僕は全然気が付かなかったなあ。

Ido: Sorry!  In any case, I didn’t notice a thing.

昨日は何だか疲れていたみたいだから、ぐっすり眠ってしまってたよだね。

Guess I got a little tired yesterday, and conked out!

ガリィ：・・・

Gally: …

イド： さ・・・さあ、ところで今日は一体どうするんだい？ガリィ？

Ido: S-So, by the way… What are you gonna do today, Gally?

イド： 昨日はもう暗くなってたから止めたけど、そろそろストリートの方に行ってみるのもいいかもしれないな。

Ido: I wish I could go with you, but… there are patients waiting for their examinations.

ガリィ：一人で大丈夫だよ。イド、少し心配しすぎなんじゃない？

Gally: I’m fine by myself.  Aren’t you worrying a bit too much, Ido?

イド： ハハ・・・そうかい？まあ、そうかましれないな。

Ido: Hah, hah… You think so?  Well, maybe you’re right.

ガリィ：・・・あれ？イド、どうしたのその手・・・ケガしたの？

Gally: ...Huh?  Ido, what happened to your hand?  ...Did you get hurt?

イド： あっ・・・ああ、これ？

Ido: O...Oh?  This?

イド： い・・・いやあ、さっき引っかけちゃってね・・・ハハ。

Ido: N-no… I just scraped it a few minutes ago. Hah, hah…

ゆうべ外出した時にケガしたんだわ・・・

He got hurt when he went out last night…

イド・・・何を隠していすの？

Ido… What are you hiding?

イド： 傷自体は、全然大したことないんだ。なんでもないよ。

Ido: It’s no big deal-- just a scratch!  It’s nothing!

ガリィ：・・・そう？じゃあ行ってきまあす。

Gally: ...Well, then.  I’ll be going.
